When my feet are heavy,
And when my faith is weak.
When my strength is failing,
And all my outcomes are bleak.
When the oil runs low,
And the lamps begin to fade.
When the choir stops singing,
And the world forgets the good things He’s made.
When the wolves bite my heels,
And when the vipers slither in,
When they laugh out loud and lick their lips,
And my mind gives in to their sin.
When the world comes to darkness,
And when the heavens find the night.
When the wicked walk on the streets,
And the devil takes his delight.
In these lost and lonely moments,
There remains a light among the gloom.
A single flicker, a moment of faith,
A tiny whisper to dispel the doomed.
With belief I’ll turn to heaven,
Singing, ‘Holy is the Lord above!’,
I’ll feel my faith return like thunder,
A storm of light, the roar of love.
Waves of light come raining down,
And fire fills the earth,
The dark retreats to tiny places,
To them, my heart will never serve.
So every day I’ll turn to heaven,
And let my heart repeat your praise.
I’ll see the Son of Man return,
Seated on His throne ablaze.
